Tracking Andean Birds

Tracking Andean Birds

Ian Ausprey, UFBI Fellow in Peru

By Ian Ausprey As part of the National Geographic grant funding our field season in Peru this summer, I am blogging on NG’s Open Explorer platform. Our research is on Avian Ecology in Fragmented Cloud Forests of Peru.

Birds in tropical montane forests face unprecedented challenges in a future dominated by climate change and habitat fragmentation. Our goal is to provide comprehensive data regarding the distributions, breeding ecology, and movements of montane birds within a region of extreme topographic, climatic, and habitat complexity in northern Peru. The project was initiated in 2015 by Ian Ausprey and Felicity Newell working with Dr. Scott Robinson, Director of the Ordway Lab for Ecosystem Conservation at the University of Florida and Florida Museum of Natural History.
