Black History Month: Panel Discussion on Professional Societies and DEI
UFBI hosted a virtual panel discussion on Friday, February 25, 2022, from 12:00PM -1:00PM, on the role of professional scientific societies in fighting racism and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. The panel focused on the new NSF LEAPS BIO program: LEAding cultural change through Professional Societies (LEAPS) of Biology. Guests included NSF Program Officer Dan Marenda and PIs of three of the LEAPS projects funded during the first year of the program: DaJoie Croslan (AIBS), Mary Williams (ASPB), and Veronica Segarra (American Society for Cell Biology). If you want to learn what some societies are doing, how the work can be expanded to other societies, and how the efforts of these societies may provide models for our institutions, you can watch the video of the panel discussion. Enjoy!!
